Summer Institutes
at Arcadia University
Earn graduate credit from Arcadia University (Glenside, PA) while building your knowledge and skills for designing, leading, and implementing effective extended learning and out-of-school time opportunities and programs. Continue the learning with online follow-up projects that ground theory in applied practice at your site. Now in its third year, this three-day institute and on-line follow-up is interactive, hands-on and practical and brings together diverse and innovative educators from around the country to:
- Examine current needs and trends in out-of-school time
- Identify indicators of high-quality out-of-school-time programming
- Gain tools and strategies for program planning and staff development

Extending Opportunities for English Learners
July 29-31, 2010—3 credits
More and more educators want to better serve English language learners- the fastest-growing segment of the school-age population. This three-day institute and on-line follow–up provide concrete, hands-on strategies and knowledge, including:
- Strategies for improving oral language development and literacy skills
- Understanding the role of out-of-school-time in supporting English learners
- Using activities and effective communication skills to boost achievement
